Enrollment Year Round

For the past two years, KMS has offered our existing families the option of our All Year Montessori (AYM) Program, for our Toddler and Casa students. Our AYM Montessori Summer Program is specially designed to allow students to continue school throughout the summer months and to get a head start for the upcoming year, while at the same time enjoying fun and exciting summer time activities and outings.

Benefits of All Year Montessori (AYM)

  • Researchers have found that shorter breaks cut down the learning loss during the summer.
  • Remedial courses can be offered in the vacation breaks to help students.
  • Positive student attitudes, more relaxed school atmosphere, have been attributed to year round education.
  • Educational benefits include increased retention of information that has been taught due to a more balanced schedule.
  • Parents are satisfied with alternate school year calendars once it is implemented

AYM Program (11 or 12 Months)
It’s the best of both worlds: a Montessori learning program in the morning session and then participation in planned themed activities in the afternoon, including scheduled field trips. For a detailed list of our summer afternoon activities, please refer to our Summer Camp listing.

This is achieved through enrollment in our AYM Program, which is our 10 Month Program combined with our Modified Montessori Summer Program.

10 Month Program (September to June)
Teachers and students are in school for approximately the same number of instructional hours as those on Durham District School Board Calendar, although the number of instructional days may slightly differ depending on scheduled P.D. days and School Holidays.

Toddler
Our AYM Toddler program is designed for children, ages 18 months to 2 ½ years. It provides an environment focusing on GROSS MOTOR, SOCIAL/EMOTIONAL and LANGUAGE DEVELOPMENT.  Activities include; practical life exercises, sensorial activities, speech development, physical education, arts and crafts, music and toilet training. Children will develop an overall comfort with being in a school environment and will be able to begin Junior Casa with ease.

Junior Casa
Our AYM Junior Casa Program prepares the children for becoming more independent and ready for a structured learning program. Becoming more independent is a process that starts with concentration and being able to follow instructions and directions. Children will develop an overall comfort with being in a school environment and will be able to begin Casa with ease.

Casa
Students starting Casa who did not attend Junior Casa the previous year will benefit from the AYM Casa program as they are introduced to some of the key requirements and expectations offered through the Montessori Curriculum in a safe and structured classroom environment. For students who attended Casa the previous year, this program will reinforce the concepts already introduced and enhance their readiness, while becoming more focused and independent learners.
